A chunk of Blacklight.

Blacklight is a rare mineral with supernatural qualities. It's primary use is as a powerful fuel source, surpassing even Uranium with its potential. Blacklight can be used to power war machines of incredible size and strength. It has a reputation for being highly toxic, and inducing paranoia and insanity into those exposed to it.

Blacklight was created by the Titan known as Whiro, and his primary weapon by which he twists his enemies minds and drives them insane, as well as having other supernatural qualities. In large quantities, Blacklight can naturally form to create Markers.

Blacklight can be found on any planet where Titans exist.

Toxicity[]

Heating Blacklight and releasing its energy also carries the danger of releasing its toxic nature. Those who suffer continued exposure to Blacklight, even when the mineral is undisturbed, quickly suffer from nuesea, fatigue, hallucinations and shortness of breath. Prolonged exposure can be far more serious, causing rapid necrosis, heart and lung failure, brain damage and death. Indirect exposure to Blacklight can cause paranoia and insanity.

In order to ensure safety when working in the presence of Blacklight, protective headgear and body suits are required.

Markers[]

When Blacklight can be find in high concentrations, it has a funny habit of eroding naturally together to form larger concentrations. When enough Blacklight has come together on a close location, it will quickly fuse together and form a Marker. Markers, in turn, will begin emitting a bio-electronic pulse that can lead to the creation of Necromorphs.

Markers are the most dangerous and advanced stage of Blacklight's properties. They are the direct result of Whiro's power.

Blacklight Virus (The Black Flu)[]

It has been discovered that heavy Blacklight exposure on a mass level can lead to an viral infection that turns its victims into bloodthirsty zombie-like creatures. These are different from Necromorphs in that those infected are still alive, not re-animated corpses. In addition, the presence of a Marker is not required for the Black Flu to appear.

The Black Flu was first discovered on Arsinos. The virus is known to thrive in cold conditions. It is airbourne and waterbourne. It can survive outside of a human host for several thousand years.
